I forgot my passcode. Can you reset it?

No. Your passcode is the only thing that unlocks your vault: the keys are derived from it on your phone, and there is no account, server or reset link that could stand in for it. If you made an encrypted backup, restore it and choose a new passcode; without a backup the vault's contents cannot be recovered by anyone, including us.

02

What do the free and paid plans include?

The free plan holds up to 50 photos, videos and documents per vault plus one extra vault, with every security feature included; notes, viewing, export, delete and backup are never limited. Lifetime Unlock is a one-time $19.99 purchase that removes the item limit and supports up to eight total vaults per device, including the current vault. Weekly ($1.49), monthly ($3.99) and annual ($14.99) subscriptions offer the same capacity while active (U.S. prices). Purchases are tied to your Apple Account; no app account is needed.

03

How do I restore a subscription or Lifetime Unlock?

Open Settings, scroll to About and tap Restore Purchases while signed in to the Apple Account you bought it with. The App Store verifies your active subscription or Lifetime Unlock and restores paid access on this phone. The plan is device-wide, so every vault on the phone sees it.

04

How do I cancel, and what happens to my files?

Open Settings → About → Manage Subscription to change or cancel through Apple. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the current period ends; cancellation keeps access through the paid period. After expiry, the free capacity limits apply to new additions, but existing files remain available to open, export, delete and back up. Lifetime Unlock has no renewal. To avoid overlapping charges, active subscribers can choose lifetime after their subscription expires.

05

How do I add photos, and does the app need access to my photo library?

Tap the plus button in the library and choose From Photos, From Files or the private camera. The Photos option uses Apple's system picker, which hands over only the items you select, so Vault Max never asks for permission to read your library. Each item is encrypted as it arrives, and the original file is kept byte for byte, so HEIC photos and HEVC videos lose nothing.

06

Does importing remove the photos from the Photos app?

Not by itself. After an import from Photos, Vault Max offers to delete the originals; that step needs Photos permission, which iOS asks for at that moment, and you can answer Keep and don't ask again (the offer is a switch in Settings, under Privacy). iOS moves deleted photos to the Recently Deleted album first, so empty that album if you want them gone right away.

07

Do Live Photos keep their motion?

Yes. A Live Photo is stored as one item with its still and its motion clip both encrypted, and in the viewer you touch and hold to play it. Export or share it and both halves go out together; the Save Live Photo option puts it back into Photos as a Live Photo rather than as a separate photo and video.

08

Can I save something into the vault from another app?

Choose Vault Max in another app's share sheet to deposit supported photo, video and file attachments while locked. Text and web links are skipped with feedback. The extension has no vault decryption keys: it encrypts incoming files and seals their temporary keys to the main vault's public key. Deposits appear when you next unlock the main vault.

09

I use the disguise. How do I hide the Vault Max share action?

The share action is listed by iOS, so hide it there: open any share sheet, tap More at the end of the app row, then Edit, and switch Vault Max off. Sharing into the vault still works from Vault Max's own share sheet. Settings, under Disguise & app icon, explains the same steps inside the app.

10

How do I back up, and how do I move to a new phone?

Settings, under Backup & storage, has Encrypted backup: it writes one .vaultmax file holding the current vault and its descendants, protected by a backup password of its own, which you can save anywhere through the Files app, such as iCloud Drive or a USB drive, or AirDrop to a Mac. On the new phone install Vault Max and choose Restore from a backup, select the file, enter its backup password and choose a new passcode. Restored child vaults need new passcodes too. The encrypted vault is also included in normal iPhone backups unless you switch Include in iPhone backups off.

11

What are decoy and duress vaults?

Every vault has its own passcode and looks exactly like the real one, so a decoy you fill with harmless photos is what opens when that passcode is entered. A duress vault can be set to erase every other vault the moment it is opened; the option is off until you turn it on, and the app warns you before it does. The lock screen does not list your vaults. The vault that creates child vaults can manage them in Settings.

12

How do I unlock from the calculator?

With the Calculator disguise on, the app opens as a working calculator. Type your passcode and press equals to unlock; if you use a password or a pattern, or want the regular lock screen for any reason, press and hold equals instead. The disguise and the alternative app icons (Calculator, Notes, Weather, Timer) live in Settings, under Disguise & app icon.

13

What does Vault Max do differently on iPhone Duo?

Closed, its controls move into the side strip on the outer display; open, the tabs become a sidebar and the grid gets more columns. Fold the phone shut and the vault locks when Lock when folded shut is enabled in Settings. Stand it partially open and the viewer switches to a flex layout, with the photo on the upper half and the filmstrip and controls on the lower half.

14

What data does Vault Max collect?

None. There is no account, no analytics and no server; the only network connection the app makes is to Apple's App Store for purchases and subscription status. The full policy is on the privacy page.

15

How do I contact support?

Email madmaxlabsllc@gmail.com with Vault Max in the subject line, and say which iPhone or iPad and which iOS version you have. Never send your passcode or your backup file: we never need either, and we could not open them anyway.
